Building A Virtual Hotel... A Time Lapse Video

When we started this project, our Second Life designers placed a tiny virtual camera high above the island that we purchased for the aloft hotel. Each day they took a photograph of the construction of the exterior of the hotel. To see how the virtual hotel came together, check out this time lapse video put together by Cory Edo from ElectricSheep....

Very very nice--it's be edutational to learn how this virtual camera works too, was it connected to an avatar?

I didn't hear any sound on this, but I was thinking this is both a major visual achievement and could be the start of bringing something 'qatsi-like to Second Life! As in,

Hey Torley!

Yeah, there's no sound on the vid because I didn't want to grab something I didn't have rights to use, and we wanted to get this up asap (it was still pretty late into the night before I got it looking the way I wanted it to). Hopefully eventually though...

As far as how the shots were taken, Makaio set up a camera object up in the air that I could sit on and take photos as we went so they're all from the same angle. Any changes in the picture is due to me switching computers/monitors as the project went (I'm on #3 right now).

In the future though one of ESC's fantastic coders has written a bit of code to automate the photo taking process, so it won't be so reliant upon someone going "shoot, time to take another photo".

Yea, gotta pump some Philip Glass tunes over this ala the Qatsi trilogy! :) I couldn't get it working in Firefox on a Mac, but can we generate our own Glassism with this?
